These last few weeks have given us a few precious glimpses of spring and it is just glorious. Even with our mild winter, these days are more than welcomed by me and my family. We spend so much time outside even if we are just sitting on the patio furniture eating our meals, snacking, reading, listening to music -- same things we would do inside but it just feels better doing it outside. My kids wander around our tiny yard for hours just playing with dirt and sticks and water and whatever else they can get their hands on and I just love it. I am so grateful to God for this time in my life and I hope with his help and with intention I can keep these days for longer than most seem to these days. I have resisted (and hope to continue to resist) the constant need our society puts on being busy. We have lost all connection to nature being so busy, forcing ourselves to go against the seasons, against the natural flow of our days and against what is most important which is what God wants for us and at least for me, (and I would be so bold as to say for most of us) that is my family and enjoying the Earth that God has so generously given us. In my continued quest for the simple life in 2016, I have journaled and thought about this often. To many people it may seem more like the “boring life” than the simple life but when I think about being gone from my home every evening or driving kids from here to there all the time, it makes my head swim and I can feel my stress level rise. I want my kids to enjoy themselves and find passion in certain hobbies but I also want to teach them to do this in a slow, organic way. We don’t have to rush childhood by keeping our children so busy that they have no time to actually just be kids.
Spring represents an awakening, a rebirth that we get to experience each year. God is so forgiving and merciful he even gives all of nature a time each year to be reborn and awakened into something new, something better. Are you using this time to be reborn into something you’ve always wanted to be or do you continue to push through and go through the motions? I’m going to take this time of spring to awaken something new in me, to continue to grow into who I want to be, who I believe God is calling me to be - a gentler, kinder mother, a more aware wife and someone who gives without fear.
